British Irish Council accepts ‘no Government which only represents the whole of England’.

British Irish Council accepts ‘no Government which only represents the whole of England’.

The acceptance by the British Irish Council is that there is no voice that represents England ‘as a whole’ shows why the English urgently need their own government. If you agree with us please join our campaign or if you already a member please ask your family or friends to join us.

We need your help to fight this injustice. Please read the e-mail exchange from the bottom upwards.

Dear Patrick,

You say that the UK Government represents the interests of all parts of the UK, including England. However, as you say, the interests of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are covered separately from the UK by representatives from their own administrations. I understand that you are telling me that although the interests of the rest of the UK including the inhabitants of the Bailiwick of Jersey, among others, are represented in this international forum no-one represents the interests of us in England!

I am sure that many English people will be most interested to discover this through our website.

Kind Regards,

Priscilla Cullen

The British Irish Council’s reply to the Campaign for an English Parliament

Dear Priscilla

Thank you for contacting the British-Irish Council.

The UK Government represents the interests of all parts of the UK, including England. The structure of devolution in the UK means that there is no Government which only represents the whole of England (or an English Parliament). This is reflected in the membership of the British-Irish Council which comprises the UK Government, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive, in addition to the non-UK members: Ireland, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.

I hope this answers your query and please let us know if you require any further information.

Kind regards,

Patrick
